Three (almost)

Sat May 23, 2009, 4:13 PM
So I have three days off. Looking around I see I have three working computers. And the three major OS's recently released new versions. So I decided to get the latest version of each.

I started with Mac. That was the easiest. I just went to "Software Updates" on my macbook, saw that the new version of OS X was available, so I downloaded it.

Next I decided to put Ubuntu Linux on my desktop. For this I did a clean install. I went to the website, downloaded the iso, and installed it. After a few false starts, I had it up and running.

Lastly I wanted to put Windows 7 on my other laptop. I had to hunt for the download page, then hunt for the download link. Then MS wanted me to log in with my Windows Live ID before I downloaded. I tried to remember my password, but evidently couldn't. So I clicked the link to reset my password. After going through that process I tried to log in again, but it wasn't accepting the new password. So I figured I must have entered it wrong when I reset it, so I tried to reset it again. When I entered the password again, it told me that the new password had to be different than the old one. So I had entered it correctly. So I changed it to a different password. But when I tried to log in it still wouldn't let me. So I finally decided to create a new account. And here's the fun part: I used the exact same email and password on the new account that I had on the old account, and it let me.

So I was finally able to download Windows 7. However, when I tried to put it on my laptop, the installer couldn't recognize my mouse or keyboard. I was completely unable to continue with the install :(

So what is the point to all of this? In the past I've gotten flack from people because I don't use windows. Yet this is just the latest in a long line of frustrations I've had with Microsoft's horrible operating system. And the next person who calls me a "fan boy" is going to be privileged with this very tirade :D

come and nestle thy wounded spirit in the feathers of my oasis and feel it
feel the softest lightest touch of soothing
hear the gentlest barely audible words of one who through them is renewing
all that life has cast thy way, this I vow, each night on
